Mental Health & Wellbeing At Sea

We understand that life at sea means long periods away from family and friends, demanding schedules, limited privacy and isolation from the support networks many of us rely on at home. We take mental health very seriously and believe that looking after your wellbeing is just as important as looking after your physical health and safety. If you are struggling we have curated a list of helpful resources to help you access the support you need at this time.

If you are in immediate danger, please contact emergency services or speak to the Captain immediately.

Sometimes it helps to talk to someone outside the company, and a number of independent, confidential services are available to seafarers and their families. We recommend the following:

DIGITAL SUPPORT

These digital services can provide confidential support, information and tools that you can access online.

Qwell: Free digital mental wellbeing support for adults across the UK.

Qwell offers anonymous support including professional support, community support and personal development tools.

Kooth: Free and confidential mental wellbeing support.

Access online support and resources designed to help you understand and manage your mental wellbeing.

SAMH: Scottish Association for Mental Health

A Scottish mental health charity providing information, support and services for people affected by mental health problems, including support following a mental health crisis.

It’s OK to ask for help.

Whether you’re on board, between contracts or back home, looking after your mental health is just as important as looking after your physical health.

You don’t have to have all the answers. Starting a conversation can be the first step.
