Marine Mechanic – The Tanera Project (Summer Isles, NW Scotland)

We’re delighted to be partnering with The Tanera Project to recruit a Marine Mechanic on a permanent basis — a handson technical role at the centre of one of the UK’s most unique marine environments.

The Marine Mechanic maintains the operational readiness, reliability and safety of a multivessel commercial fleet supporting daily island operations. The role covers planned and corrective maintenance, faultfinding, defect rectification and technical support within a remote, exposed marine setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain engines, systems and machinery to ensure fleet reliability and seaworthiness.

• Deliver scheduled servicing and planned maintenance.

• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, fuel and basic electrical faults.

• Support daily fleet readiness and return vessels to service promptly.

• Manage spares, consumables and criticalparts inventory.

• Uphold safe systems of work, pollution prevention and safe fuel handling.

Qualifications

Essential

• 3+ years’ marine engineering or mechanical maintenance experience on small commercial vessels.

• Competence in diagnosing and rectifying mechanical, fuel and basic electrical faults.

Desirable

• RYA Diesel Engine Course; MCA AEC.

• Marine engineering qualification or timeserved apprenticeship.

• Experience with marine diesels, outboards, hydraulics, steering and electrical systems.

• First Aid and relevant commercial marine certification.
